Top 10 Search Engines list in The World 2024

Nowadays, whenever someone has a question, he searches on Google, a search engine.

But do you know how search engines provide you with exact information?

You may think someone will be hired to write information on Google, but that is untrue.

A search engine is a web-based program or software that helps the user find information on the World Wide Web, such as Google.

But now the question arises: is Google only a search engine?

Think!

I’ve tested dozens of search engines, including some newer ones, which AI powers.

Based on my tests, I’ve compiled a list of the top 10 search engines that I like the best, discussing the pros and cons of each.

10 Best Search Engines in 2024

1. Google

When we talk about search engines, we also think about Google. The reason for this is that the search engine market holds 90% shares of Google. That is, more than 90% of the search engines are used by Google.

Google

One major downside is the privacy concerns and the massive amount of data Google collects based on your web activity.

In addition, late last year, in the ongoing US versus Google trial, it was revealed that Google pays Apple to be the default search engine in Safari. According to the New York Times, that number was around $18-20 billion in 2021.

In other words, Google pays to maintain its dominance.

2. Microsoft Bing

The most used search engine after Google is Bing

Microsoft Bing

Bing is Microsoft-owned. You will also get a Bing search engine if you have a Windows-powered laptop. And after Google, it holds a good share because if I talk about the USA, it holds a good share in America.

More than 25% of the searches in the USA in 2021-22 were on Bing, so Bing can be a suitable replacement for Google.

Microsoft’s AI search bot, powered by ChatGPT, is built into Bing. For example, you can click on its icon on the search page to begin a conversation.

When doing an image search, Bing is far superior to Google, with better filters and search options.

I want to tell you one more special thing about Bing, which is a reward program on Bing through which you can add points to the number of searches you do on Bing. You can then use those points in the Microsoft Store to purchase any app or product.

So this is an exciting thing that you should know.

3. Yandex

Yandex is The third search engine you can use in Google’s replacement.

Yandex

If I talk about Yandex worldwide, then it may not cover a large part. But if I talk about Russia, then around 50% of searches in Russia are on Yandex.

Yandex can be a good option if you are doing SEO for a client whose targeted location is Russia or any city in Russia. You can also consider Yandex.

4. DuckDuckGo

The following search engine that you should know about is DuckDuckGo

DuckDuckGo

The name is a little funny, but DuckDuckGo is for people concerned about privacy.

As you know, Google and other search engines collect a lot of data, including your search history and personal information, store it, and use it later for ads. So we all know this.

However, DuckDuckGo is a search engine that does not store your personal information or privacy. This is a fantastic option for those who are concerned about privacy.

5. Yahoo

If I talk about the top 3 search engines, it comes in Yahoo’s name. And Yahoo is one of the oldest search engines, I will call it.

Yahoo

Because even before Google, we were familiar with Yahoo. Yahoo could be a fantastic choice.

However, it is not active in many countries now, so it will not be a great choice. However, Yahoo is a very old search engine, so you can also consider this.

But if you have a client whose business is in Argentina, Yahoo’s market share is very good there. So, if you are using it for any SEO purpose, then you can use Yahoo.

6. Baidu

The following search engine is very, very popular in China.

Baidu

Founded in 2000, Baidu is China’s number-one search engine, with over 100 million daily users.

Baidu went public in 2005, and shares jumped on opening day. Eight years later, it’s worth over $50 billion and has fended off takeover offers from Google, Microsoft and Yahoo.

So Baidu can be a fantastic choice for those who live in China or interact from there or China is a targeted location for their SEO.

7. Ask.com

First launched back in the late 1990s, Ask.com was referred to as Ask Jeeves before being renamed Ask.com in 2006.

Ask.com

Ask.com is an American-based search engine that aims to answer questions in the best possible way. It can also suggest better ways of phrasing a question or search, which is great, considering Google and Bing don’t do this as much.

Ask.com also has excellent articles covering tech, news, sports, and more. You can read stuff on the Ask.com homepage.

Ask.com is an excellent alternative to Google or Bing, so if you want an alternative but great search engine, this is probably the one for you.

8. Swiss Cows

Based in Switzerland, this search engine offers various services, including a VPN, private email, a private messaging app, and a privacy-focused search engine.

Swiss Cows

Swiss Cows is a good, kid-friendly choice for younger users because websites containing adult content are not included in the search results.

In addition to the tabs for the web, images, and video, you can also search for music.

The Music option lets you play music for free, available from the SoundCloud service.

9. Brave Browser

The best search engine is from the folks who make the Brave browser

Brave Browser

Brave Search is the winner because it balances fantastic search results and privacy. They don’t ever track you, your searches or your clicks.

When it was first released in 2021, it wasn’t that good. It has improved so much that it’s now my default search engine on all my PCs.

When you do a search, their AI-powered summarizer will produce a paragraph at the top summarizing an answer to your query with cited sources. Below that will be the traditional search results.

The results are from its own web crawling index and anonymous API calls to third parties. At the top, you’ll see the typical tabs for images, news, and videos.

Brave Search has a new feature called Goggles. Here, you can alter the results with parameters. In this example, the results are from tech blogs, hacker News, and many others. If you click on Discover More, you can create your goggles or select one of the popular goggles listed.

10. Perplexity.ai

If I consider the best AI-powered search engines, I focus on Perplexity.ai

Perplexity.ai

This untraditional search engine uses a chatbot that directly answers questions based on the queries given. To begin, you enter your query just like you would with any other traditional search engine.

You’ll see the sources cited at the top that were used to formulate the answer. When it’s done, you’ll have the opportunity to ask a follow-up question or choose one of the related questions.

Just a word of caution, search engines using AI based on large language models, like perplexity.ai, will often have errors or hallucinations, which may contain false or misleading information presented as facts.

By the way, I would like to tell you one thing, the search engine is every website or platform where there is a search box.

As you mentioned, YouTube is also a search engine where you can type any keyword and get results. The only difference is that the results are videos.

The same is true for Pinterest. So, what is Pinterest? It is a kind of search engine where the results are in the form of images or videos.

It’s the same with Instagram also, where you can see different posts by typing keywords.

So all these platforms where the search option exists, whether I talk about Amazon or Flipkart, are part of a search engine somewhere.
